Trusty-Truck Update

Okay, so we've finally seen it with our own eyes and while it's in remarkably good condition considering the condition other stolen vehicles have been in when recovered, it's definitely not in the condition we left it in. It had food, soda cans, water bottles, cigarette butts left and scattered throughout it--yuck!! Also left in it were someone's baseball hat, a blanket and rope, and a screwdriver (probably what they used to break into it with.) The driver side door is going to need body work where they removed the lock to break into it. The exterior has a bunch of new scratches all over it, the cover we had installed over the bed is completely ruined, a couple of parts along the dash board along with the ignition where taken out, J-rod's work hard hat, the carseat, and M's Gameboy are all gone.

J-rod also noticed that about 300 miles were put on it. Considering where the truck was found, what was found in it, the scratches all over the body (probably from brush in the desert) and the number of miles added to it, we were told it's very likely the truck was used a number of times to transport illegal immigrants across the border. What??? Yikes!! Perhaps that's why our license plate was removed and replaced with a different one, so as to not be as easily detected.

J-rod met with the insurance adjuster this morning and was told that fixing it up and having it returned to us will be quite a long process. First the body work will be done--repair on the driver side door, buffing out all the scratches on the body of the truck, and replacing the ruined bed cover. Then it will spend time with a mechanic who will do a front end realignment and any work on mechanical issues that there might be. Once we get it back, if we notice anything else that is wrong with it we are to report it and take it in to be fixed. Once again I say, GRR!

Seeing it for ourselves brought up a whole bunch of emotions for both of us that we hadn't yet allowed to come to the surface. Overall we were both really sad and frustrated. But at least it was recovered, what damage was done is repairable, and what was taken can be replaced.
