4.6 oz

The Pinewood Derby report is here!

After making some preliminary cuts at home, J-rod and M finishing cutting the "BYU Flash" at our friend's house...they have all the right tools! Thanks H family for sharing.

The night of the big race, all 4.6 ounces of M's "Flash" lined up right alongside the competition. As a first year racer and one of the newest cubs in the pack, our little wolf didn't think he stood a chance against all those experienced racers!

With 19 entries, the daunting task of figuring out a fair bracket system was left to the expert. Thanks DJ!

As the spectators gathered...the excitement mounted. Once the brackets were in place, D and J-rod reviewed the entries one last time.

To ensure that everything was in order, the cubs received their pit passes and were asked to review their drivers licenses prior to the start of the race.

The only thing left to address before the race began was, a pep-talk by our Bishop. In an effort to counter the effects of some hurtful "trash-talk" between a few of the cubs Sunday in Primary, our Bishop gave an AWESOME and very enthusiastic talk that reminded the boys about how true heroes behave. Throughout the event it was evident that the message was taken to heart as each boy was cheered on by the entire pack.

"Ready, set, go!"

The "BYU Flash" had it's very own cheer section--aren't they the cutest? In the humble opinion of this writer, absolutely!

The races were fast, the crowds were wow-ed, and in the end M's classic wedge-cut car...

...came in 2nd place overall to a Bear, M's best bud C! Both C and M were very surprised!

Congrats to all the Cubs--you boys made this a fun evening and are the greatest Pack; I'm glad I get to work with you and your awesome leaders each week! To all who helped make this night a success--THANK YOU!!!

And lastly, a some "celebratory" pictures:

M with his "Best Wedge Shaped Car" Award; Baby A--the "Y Flash" cheerleader with the car; and Li'l J, our "Little Cub Scout Buddy" (that's what his shirt says) who can't wait to be a cub scout himself!

M thanks his "lucky charm."

M, happy with his certificate, trophy, and car. Notice the cool neckerchief slide our Cub Scout Master made for each cub and each leader, nice touch K!

My Hubby was Cubmaster in our ward for 3 years. I have threatend him with cruel and unusual torture if he mentions the words "Pinewood" and "DerbY" in the same sentance before our son turn 8!

It looks like your guys know how to make great cars :)

Congratulations!
