Mid-February, our Cub Scouts helped the Primary put on a FUN activity. Along with helping to plan the activity, our Cubs helped to execute the activity. The theme of the activity was Serving our Family.
As the children arrived at the activity, they were warmly greeted by our Primary Presidency and were given a colored piece of yarn to tie around their wrist. Once everyone was assembled in the cultural hall, they were grouped into "families" according to color of their yarn...clever huh? The "mom's and dad's" of each family were chosen from among the Primary teachers...nice way to involve the teachers!
The day was divided up into stations. As Cub Scout Leaders, Sister H and I got to help out with the "Service Pictionary" station. As each "family" came through, Sister H and I would ask one of the Cubs to share with the rest of the family the story of The Good Samaritan. Then we talked with the family about how we can provide service to our family members. Next we would have a family member come to the front of the room and draw a slip from a basket. The slips had written on them acts of service that one could perform at home for his or her family...make a bed; mow the lawn; wash the dishes, etc. Earlier in the week the Cub Scouts had been the ones to come up with the suggestions for which acts of service should be on those slips of paper. Once a slip was selected, the family member would draw or act out the service and the family would try to guess which service was being demonstrated. It was fun to see how each child would interpret the service on their slip and how they would then demonstrate it. It was also fun to watch as the older kids helped the younger kids.
After all stations had been visited, all the families gathered in the cultural hall for a relay race. It was fun to watch as the children worked hard to quickly out do each other at the tasks of setting a table, folding a shirt, or taking out the trash, etc.
We have a pretty wonderful Primary, from the children to the leaders!! Thank you to our Primary Leaders for creatively helping the children remember the importance of serving one another in our families and thank you to our Cub Scouts for helping to put on such a fun activity!!
