Day 4 in Utah

As we were heading back from the O's house the night before, we noticed multiple signs along the way warning that due to heavy snowfall Little Cottonwood Canyon was open only to 4wd vehicles or those with chains.  Um, problem!  Our hotel was up at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, we were in a little rental car with no 4wd, and, no chains!  What to do, what to do? 

I called the hotel and explained our dilema, they patched me over to the department of public safety where a nice gentleman explained that since the roads had been cleared by the state snow plows an hour earlier, we shouldn't have any problems so...go ahead and give heading up the mountain a try and if we had any problems to call him back and they would come help us out!  After talking to him I was a little less worried, but worried still.

While the kids slept, J-rod drove every so slowly, carefully inching us up the mountain in our little gutless wonder of a rental car!  The roads may well have been cleared an hour or so earlier, but as it was still snowing, we couldn't see any signs of such activity having taken place.  As we crept along we were careful to steer clear of a few deer that were out enjoying the night snowfall, as well as the 4wd suv's that raced right on past us.  After about 35mins we finally made it up the mountain (it should have taken us 20mins), happy to be safe!

So, getting in very late once again, guess what we did the next morning?  Slept in and took it easy for a bit.  The M and Li'l J were so excited to wake up to the (still) falling snow, they couldn't wait to get outside to play in it!  Here we hit another snag...we didn't come prepared to play in the snow!  That would have to wait until tomorrow.

After resting up, we got ourselves together and headed down to BYU for some fun!  First we stopped at the Lavell Edwards Stadium to take some pictures by the Cougar statue, then we headed to the Wilkenson Center for some yummy food at the Cougar Eat--just like old times.  While we were eating, we ran into Cousin D--yay!  The boys and I had really missed seeing him Saturday night, so we were super excited to visit with him for a bit before he dashed off to class.  As we were getting ready to head over to the bookstore, we ran into one of J-rod's YM from when we lived back East--T, all grown-up and home from his mission! It was so fun to catch up with him for a bit and share some fun memories.

Once T went off to take a test, we did indeed make it to the bookstore where we had lots of fun shopping for BYU items to take home and, surprise, surprise, ran into someone else we knew!  We saw and visited with yet another one of J-rod's YM from the East, J and his beautiful young bride.  Next we were off to the activities center to go bowling!  Ahh, the BYU Bowling alley--always a good time to be had there!  One would think that between J-rod having taken a bowling class while a student at BYU, and all the practice our family gets bowling on the Wii, that one of us might have bowled a good game, but...not so much.  Sad, so sad--not even with M and Li'l J using the ramp and the bumpers being set up on our lane.  Imagine what our scores would have been like without the bumpers, oh well!

To end the day we took the kids to the Creamery on Ninth for a yummy treat--ice cream and shakes of course!  Well, they didn't have any sorbet for M so he settled for some oreos, thanks for being a trooper M!  Mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about how good their fresh and oh-so-creamy ice cream really is!!  *Sigh* If only the Creamery could ship their yummy goodness outside of Happy Valley!

We had a good time visiting BYU with the kids and all look forward to going back for another visit soon!
