"On the Road Again"

Recently some friends and I talked about songs we thought would be appropriate theme songs for each of our lives. Thinking about our little adventuresome family this week, I pondered what song would be the most appropriate for us. Looking back on how much and how far we have traveled this year, I think Willie Nelson's classic On the Road Again is the clear winner!

Last weekend we packed up our trusty truck and headed north to be with Big J's family for a baby blessing. It was a super quick trip, but lots of fun! Saturday afternoon the boys went four-wheeling while the girls went shopping. : ) Saturday night Dad S. took twenty of us out to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. The adults enjoyed an evening of conversation over yummy food while the kids enjoyed dancing around in the many hats available at the restaurant. Sunday we attended baby TJ's blessing and then gathered at BJ and C's house for a yummy lunch, good company, and beautiful afternoon. After lunch most everyone packed up and we all went our separate ways. On the drive home, just on the Western side of Kingman we saw a BEAUTIFUL full arch rainbow and stopped to take a picture...then got caught in a HUGE rain and lightning storm! Driving through it reminded us of the many drives through NY and SC in crazy "can't see the car in front of you" rain storms! The rain stopped just on the easten side of Kingman, and we were very grateful to have stopped to gas up in Laughlin where it was still dry when we had gone through it. The lightning continued in the mountains around us up through Wickenburg, but no more rain. The lightning sure was beautiful to watch from a distance!

This coming weekend we will head west to visit some of Z's family (as well as some of Big J's family) and cheer on the good ol' Cougs as they face UCLA at the Historic Rose Bowl. We're hoping to see cousin D suit up as #86 wide-receiver. Go #86!

With these two trips we bring our road-trip total for the year to 8! We started out the year driving x-country from the east to the west and apparently haven't had enough yet, because by the year's end we will have added at least a couple more. In case it wasn't already obvious to those of you on the receiving end of all our travels, we are VERY happy to be closer to family and are grateful for the many opportunities we've had to gather with you! Perhaps next year though, some of you will travel this way and come hang out with us in our new pool! : )
