A costume in a jiffy!

Today is the first day of the last week of 1st grade for M--time sure does have a way of marching on doesn't it? To celebrate the end of the school year, this week has been declared "Spirit Week."

The theme for today is: "Dress as your favorite storybook character." Um, problem. M already did that during "Spirit Week" the final week before Winter Break, when he went to school dressed as Harry Potter.

So what's a boy to do? All weekend long M poured through storybooks, picture books, chapter books, to see if he could come up with a character that would satisfy his creativity. As of last night at bedtime he still had not decided. This morning I woke up to a very excited M wearing a bright yellow polo and though something was up because as of late, M has decided he doesn't want to wear any of his polo shirts to school because "they're too dressy for school." Hmm. I could tell by the light in his eyes that he had finally figured something out and was quickly informed that the yellow polo was indeed due to a costume idea!

Friday M came home from school with his yearbook. Side note: we never had a nicely published yearbook that our parents had to pay for until middle school, however...since this was the first year of a brand new school we decided it would be a nice momento for M to have. Plus, a number of the school activity pictures published in the book were taken by yours truly. : ) Anyway...M decided this morning that he wanted to go dressed as the jaguar in the school yearbook (also the school mascot).

Once I was coherent and able to help him get ready for school, M described to me in detail how he wanted me to use my make-up to draw spots, whiskers, and a nose on his face.

The big queston for him was, how would I put spots on his clothes? When my brain finally kicked in, it didn't take too long for me to come up with a quick and easy solution: adhesive felt pads (you know, the kind you put on furniture, chair legs, etc.) and the best part, they seemed to stick well (I will have to wait and see how they survived a day at school!) We only stuck them to the front of his shirt since we figured the chances of them coming off anywhere else were pretty high.
