With lunch behind us, we headed to the Fashion District for some more shopping. A fun stop was the fabric shop of the popular show Project Runway—Mood. Three levels of fabric, glorious fabric!! Interspersed among the aisles and aisles of wonderful fabric were walls of ribbon, buttons, zippers, and all sorts of other trim. Walking around the store, it was fun to watch all the students of different disciplines as they examined the fabric—the look and feel of it—before snipping a swatch which they would then attach to their project plans. Though S was the only one who bought fabric, the rest of us had a great time looking at and feeling the many luscious fabrics while dreaming up many possible ways to put them to use.
As we continued on our way through the Fashion District, we began to notice a number of specialty stores and ultimately were drawn into a couple of them. Who knew you could run a business solely on the sale of ribbon and buttons? While at first we joked about—“only in NYC!”--we soon found that we were spending quite a bit of time in the stores dedicated to the sale of just trim, buttons, or beads.
