A New Tradition?

It's raining, it's POURING and so chores I'm ignoring...and blogging instead! : )

Fishing...The Day after Christmas!

M has been wanting to learn how to fish for a very long time now--like years!  J-rod however is not a fisherman. NOT. AT. ALL!  He doesn't enjoy it, isn't patient enough to sit and wait for the chance to 'maybe' catch something.  Then there's the small detail that I don't like fish and so wouldn't cook whatever was caught and brought home, nope, no thanks!  So even the prospect of helping our boy so that M could complete the Fishing Elective for his Wolf Badge, an arrow point, and the Cub Scout World Conservation Award was not enough motivation for J-rod to take M fishing.  So what was M to do?

Turn to our AWESOME sportsman brother-in-law T to save the day!  Uncle T loves, loves, LOVES to fish and has been fishing with his kids ever since they could walk (maybe before that actually!)  Early the morning after Christmas, Uncle T and cousin T came by to take J-rod and M fishing.  Uncle T took them to a nearby lake that is kept stocked to assure that M would have a chance to catch something. Even though J-rod says he is just bad luck to have along when fishing (he never catches anything) he went along anyway to spend the day bonding with the boys and to support M.  Going fishing with someone who not only has some serious fishing skills, but also all the proper equipment (we don't even own a rod!) makes going fishing more bearable for J-rod.

At the end of the day the boys came back a little bit tired and smelly, but definitely happy with their catch of four beautiful rainbow trout (J-rod bad luck didn't seem to have any effect this time around)!  They all had a such a good time, they decided to make it a yearly tradition and have all the guys in the family go fishing the day after Christmas.  Fun!  After the boys came home and freshened up, my mom kindly cooked up the fish for M to enjoy for lunch that same day and since she can make ANYTHING taste good, I even took a bite--not bad!

Thanks Uncle T and cousin T for teaching our boys how to fish and enjoy it--you guys rock!  Without your help, M wouldn't have been able to complete the Fishing Elective for his Wolf Badge, earn an arrow point, as well as the Cub Scout World Conservation Award--we owe you (and love you big time!!)!

It's still raining, but no longer pouring so I'd better get a movin' and groovin' on my chores!
