8*10 Part 4: Logan, UT

Warning: This post involves more talk about a certain little monkey throwing up so...those with sensitive stomachs may want to skip the first two paragraphs.  Also, if you'd like to see a bigger view of any of the pictures or collages click on them and an enlarged picture should pop up.

After checking out of the amazing reunion house the morning of our fourth day in Bear Lake, those who could stick around for a bit longer drove to Logan and did a session at the temple with Grandpa and Grandma S.  The road through the canyon between Bear Lake and Logan, US-89 or the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway, has MANY curves so, guess who almost didn't make it to the temple session because of a sweet little boy that got VERY carsick as we drove through the canyon?  Yep, us!  It wouldn't have been so bad because we were prepared and had given Li'l J a bag to use in case he did need to throw-up, but no, no, that would have been too-oo easy and why would we want to do things the easy way...ever?

For whatever reason that may have made sense to Li'l J but to NO one else, at the last minute Li'l J turned his head away from the bag and towards M.  Not only did Li'l J get M all down his side from M's shoulder to his short cuffs, but also all over the backseat of the rental car.  Really? REALLY?? Yes, it was no joke!  So mid-canyon we pulled over, unloaded the trunk to get to the boys suitcase for spare clothes for BOTH boys, and then wiped down the entire backseat.  Oh the joys of having passed along the motion sickness gene!  Poor Li'l J!!

Once we got to the temple, we met up with the cousins that were taking all the little kids to the park while the rest of us were in the temple.  After handing over our kids and STINKY car, we finally made it to the session where we had a wonderful time in a very beautiful place with lots of loved ones.  It was absolutely worth the crazy morning we had, but WHY-OH-WHY does getting to the temple have to be such a challenge sometimes??

(I LOVE the joy on C-sta's face in this pic!!)
SO happy to be together!

After the session we met back up with everyone in the temple parking lot.  As we were gathering up our kids we became aware that one of them had fallen into a little creek at the park and had to have his clothes changed AGAIN because he was all muddy.  One guess as to which little monkey it was. : )  He sure knows how to keep life interesting, that's for sure!  Before saying our goodbyes, we all ate some yummy pie and took some final pictures before waving farewell to all that had to continue on.

From the temple we followed Mom and Dad S to their hotel in Logan where we all changed before for lunch.  After lunch we all headed over to Providence, UT where Dad showed us the house where the first of his ancestors that had immigrated to the United States from Switzerland had set down roots.  We learned that it was once settle in the beautiful Logan area where this first ancestor changed the spelling of  our last name.

1. The original S family home in Logan, UT.
2. The little creek where Grandpa C. S.
was baptized as a little boy.
3. Li'l J, M, and N having fun near the creek.
4. C, D, Zippy, and C-sta.
5. C, N, J-rod, M, and Li'l J.
6. Father and Son.

After taking pictures at this property where the kids played in a little creek (but fortunately did not fall into this time) where J-rod's Grandpa S was baptized as a boy, we then found the Providence Cemetery where we spent quite some time finding and then photographing the many family burial sites located there; some were back to the late 1800's and others as recent as a few years ago.  This was definitely a great trip for gathering family history.  We are so very grateful to be a part of ALL the wonderful families with whom we share our life!!

Look at the dates on: 1, 2, & 4-6!
3. Apparently the family name of "Leroy"
goes quite a ways back.
7 & 8.  This was the beautiful view we were blessed to see
as we drove from Providence back to Logan!

Highway view as we left the beautiful Cache Valley ("Hidden Valley").

Beautiful pointed mountain ridges as we headed south on 1-15.

The pointed ridges on this mountain side caught my eye as we headed south towards the Salt Lake Valley.  I'm grateful for all of the wonderful things we were able to experience on this trip!  Stay tuned as there are still two more fun adventure-filled days to tell about!
