School's Out!

The last week of school was a rather busy one for M! He had lots of fun taking part in:

• the different theme days of "Spirit Week"; Z's favorite get-up of the week: when M dressed as a jaguar (the school Mascot.)
• First Grade Field Day (which J-rod, Li'l Jacob, and I all got to go help at).
• a class pizza and ice cream party (his teacher ordered a no-cheese pizza just for M, and I brought in his sorbet).
• an afternoon of research presentations--each child picked a question they wanted to know the answer to and then went about finding the answer; made a poster; and then presented it to their classmates and parents. M's question: "How Does Hair Grow?"
• a class awards ceremony where M was honored by the school for being on the Principal's List all 4 quarter's; received an award from his teacher for having a "Magnificent Memory;" and an award from the librarian for being a "Top Reader."
• a yearbook signing party (yes, since this was the inaugural year for his school we actually paid the big bucks for him to have a yearbook…not to mention that a number of the pictures throughout the book were taken by yours truly!)
• and last but not least, helping his dear ol' mom put together a mini-scrapbook "from the class" for his teacher (it was his teacher's first year teaching so we thought we'd leave him with some good memories from the year.) At the beginning of the month I had sent home a letter with two colored-card stock pages asking parents to please help their child create something memorable on the pages for the teacher. Throughout the month the children's entries trickled in and when all was said and done we collected 14 out of 20 entries to include in the scrapbook. We supplemented those entries with pages that I created containing pictures I had taken throughout the year. We had tons of fun putting it together and M enjoyed being able to help the class keep it a secret from the teacher until the last day of school!

Once school was officially out for the summer, we took M out to dinner to celebrate. He chose to go to Chili's--his favorite restaurant because he can order PLAIN cooked pasta and corn on the cob without any butter. : )
